Open C tuning

Video: Open C tuning

Open C tuning   -   C G C G C E

Theory overview

The notes in this tuning form the c major triad, which is the basic C major chord. The notes of this triad are (C, G, E). When you strum the strings with out holding down any notes you will get a C major chord.

Open C tuning, just like with all open tunings is very widely used by slide guitarists as chords can be formed over a single fret. Open C tuning is used by musicians such as John Butler (John Butler Trio) and Adrian Nation.

This form of guitar tuning provides a very full sound and is very good for acoustic instrumentals.

Notes:

From thickest string to thinnest string read.
